Metro Manila Film Festival’s first documentary film directed by Baby Ruth Villarama.

“Sunday Beauty Queen” tells the story of a group of expatriate domestic workers in Hong Kong as they prepare to take part in an annual beauty pageant. It stars former Hongkong domestic helpers Rudelyn Acosta, Cherrie Mae Bretana, Mylyn Jacobo, Hazel Perdido, Leo Selomenio.

Sunday Beauty Queen is produced by Chuck Gutierrez of Tuko Film Productions with the help of Articulo Uno’s Fernando Ortigas.

1. It is the first documentary film to be part of MMFF.

2. It took 4 years to finish the movie.

3. Artikulo Uno, Heneral Luna’s producer is also behind Sunday Beauty Queen. Artikulo Uno’s Fernando Ortigas is also one of the producers behind the docu film Sunday Beauty Queen.

4. The film’s director Baby Ruth Villarama’s mother is also domestic helper that’s why the movie is close to her heart.

5. The film premiered at the 21st Busan International Film Festival.

6. The film  was graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board.

7. The film’s other title is “Sunday Cinderella”.

8. The only MMFF official entry without movie/television stars in its cast. Since it is the only documentary film, the movie starred former Hongkong domestic helpers.

9. The first MMFF official entry to tackle domestic helpers lives.

10. The second MMFF official entry with the story about OFW. Sunday Beauty Queen is the 2nd MMFF official entry to base its story on OFWs following Katas Ng Saudi in 2007 starring Jinggoy Estrada.
