Would You Believe this Egg-shaped Mass was Removed from a Man? Creepy…

The human body is full of mysteries but there one’s creepy puzzle that had doctors scratching their heads in wonder: for a large egg-shaped mass was removed from a 62-year-old man at Georgetown University Hospital, a hospital in Washington, D.C.

This mass weighed half a pound [around a quarter of a kilogram], was 3.34 inches at the midline, was smooth, and really looked like an egg. In fact, though it did not have a hard shell, it looked like a hard-boiled egg when sliced, sans the yellow yolk but it did look yellow. The mass did not have any odor.

According to a report on the Huffington Post, this egg-like mass is called a peritoneal loose body and is the largest specimen of its kind, based on reports in medical literature. The article also mentioned that peritoneal loose bodies are really quite common yet most are just small and don’t grow as big as this mass; thus, there was a need to remove it despite the object being benign.

According to urologist Dr. Rachael Sussman who had personally operated on the patient along with Dr. Jonah Murdock of Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the mass could be likened to a pearl growing inside an oyster.

It possibly came from a fat that fell away when the patient was still young. Then, the fat was calcified and hardened but continued to grow until it became as large as this egg-like shape.
